Caprese salad with balsamic reduction

Easy Caprese Salad with Balsamic Reduction

  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 4

Ingredients

2 large Tomatoes or 6 small Tomatoes (ripe and sliced)

8 ounces Mozzarella Cheese (fresh, sliced)

1/4 cup Basil Leaves (fresh)

2 tbsp Extra Virgin Olive Oil

1 tbsp Balsamic Vinegar (Optional: 1 cup of High-Quality Balsamic Vinegar if you want to make the Balsamic Reduction)

Salt (to taste)

Black Pepper (freshly ground, to taste)

Instructions

Prepare the Ingredients
  1. Slice the Tomatoes and Mozzarella: Use a sharp knife to slice both the tomatoes and mozzarella cheese into even rounds, approximately 1/4 inch thick.
Arrange the Salad
  1. Layer the Ingredients: On a serving platter, alternate slices of tomato and mozzarella cheese, slightly overlapping each piece for a visually appealing presentation.
Add Basil and Season
  1. Garnish with Basil: Tuck whole basil leaves between the slices of tomato and mozzarella for a burst of freshness.
  2. Season: Lightly sprinkle salt and freshly ground black pepper over the arranged slices.
Drizzle Dressing
  1. Prepare the Dressing: In a small bowl, whisk together the extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar until well combined. To make a balsamic reduction, follow these steps.
  2. Dress the Salad: Drizzle the olive oil and balsamic mixture over the salad just before serving to enhance the flavors.
