Ingredients
Scale
2 pounds of Potatoes (preferably Yukon Gold for their creamy texture)
4 cloves of Garlic
1 cup of Milk (whole milk for richness)
1/2 cup of Butter (unsalted, to control the saltiness)
Salt to taste
Black Pepper to taste (freshly ground for the best flavor)
2 tablespoons of Fresh Chives (finely chopped, for garnish)
Instructions
Prepare the Potatoes
- Peel the Potatoes: Use the potato peeler to remove the skins from the potatoes, then rinse them under cold water.
- Cut into Equal Pieces: Chop the potatoes into even chunks to ensure uniform cooking.
- Boil the Potatoes: Place the potato chunks into the large pot, cover with water, and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer until the potatoes are fork-tender, about 15-20 minutes.
Infuse the Milk with Garlic
- Mince the Garlic: While the potatoes are boiling, use the garlic press to mince the garlic cloves finely.
- Warm the Milk and Garlic: In the saucepan, combine the milk, minced garlic, and butter. Warm over low heat until the butter melts and the mixture is infused with garlic, but do not let it boil.
Mash and Mix
- Drain and Mash: Once the potatoes are cooked, drain them well and return them to the pot. Use the potato masher to mash them to your desired consistency.
- Add the Milk Mixture: Gradually pour the warm milk and garlic mixture into the mashed potatoes, stirring until smooth and creamy. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Garnish and Serve
- Garnish: Transfer the garlic mashed potatoes to a serving dish and sprinkle with finely chopped fresh chives for a touch of color and flavor.
- Serve Warm: Enjoy your creamy, flavorful garlic mashed potatoes as the perfect side dish to any main course.
