Ziti pasta with bolognese sauce

Ziti Pasta with Bolognese Sauce

  • Total Time: 1 hour 30 minutes
  • Yield: 6-8

Ingredients

1 lb Ziti Pasta

1 lb Ground Beef

1/2 lb Italian Sausage

1 Onion (Finely chopped)

2 Carrots (Finely diced)

2 stalks Celery (Finely diced)

3 cloves Garlic (Minced)

28 oz Crushed Tomatoes

6 oz Tomato Paste

1 cup Red Wine (Enhances depth of flavor)

1 cup Beef Broth

1 tsp Dried Oregano

1 tsp Dried Basil

Salt and Black Pepper (To taste, for seasoning)

1/2 cup Heavy Cream

Parmesan Cheese (Grated, for garnish)

Instructions

Cook the Pasta
  1. Boil: Cook ziti in salted boiling water until al dente, which typically takes about 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  2. Prevent Sticking: Toss the drained pasta with a bit of olive oil.
Prepare the Bolognese Sauce
  1. Sauté Vegetables: Cook onion, carrots, celery, and garlic until softened.
  2. Brown the Meats: Add ground beef and Italian sausage, cooking until no pink remains.
  3. Build the Sauce: Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, red wine, beef broth, oregano, and basil. Simmer to marry the flavors.
  4. Finish with Cream: Stir in heavy cream towards the end for a rich, luxurious texture.
Combine and Serve
  1. Mix Pasta and Sauce: Toss the cooked ziti with the Bolognese sauce, ensuring the pasta is well-coated.
  2. Garnish: Sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese for a final touch of flavor.
